As we get older the inevitable is going to happen at some point in our lives. We, as young adults, become the parents of our parents. Caring for them, supporting them, and nourishing them to the point of no return.
Where we as young adults know this is just a part of growing up, we must remember the numerous times our parents drove us to all of our sporting events, to the movies, and to school both ways, up hill, etc.
The hardest thing we will probably ever have to endure is the placement of one of our parents in a medical facility, nursing home, or an assisted living location.
I had to endure this difficult task recently and was completely at a loss. Was this nursing home the best for my precious mother or did we want to choose a skilled nursing unit?
With the great family bond that my mom instilled in us as children, the decision wasn’t going to be easy. We decided on a skilled nursing unit because of its loving care and upgraded medical care.
Once we made the move the next task was to make it feel like home. How do we do that? Well, with our family portrait!! However, all facilities have rules and this one was no exception. Absolutely no holes were allowed on the walls. What could we do to achieve the task of making my mom comfortable? Of all people, my mom made the suggestion of a sticky photo. Now where can we find this? I looked all over the web and found this great company, iPixxil. Life sized photos that stick on the wall. Guess what? It worked!! My mom has all the wonderful surroundings of home and to top it off she can look at our family every day.
